Profile:

Born Alessandro Masi, he is an Italian multi-instrumentalist (mainly guitarist) who studied at the Conservatory of Music in Verona. He formed himself on piano first, then was ravished by classical and modern guitar. He fell in love with the most famous and virtuoso hard rock and progressive rock guitarists of the 70s, he moved to London in the first 80s where he played with several musicians, and when back to Italy formed, along with some venetian mates, a heavy metal band named Dark Lord, which mainly remained in the underground, but was appreciated within the new born Italian heavy metal scene. His career as a guitarist (and his life) knew a crucial turning point in 1986, when he was invited by Metal Blade Records to move to Los Angeles and join a new band they were forming, later this became called after his name, Masi. In Los Angeles, Alex met many of his youth heroes, among them Alan Holdsworth and Carmine Appice with whom he started collaborating and became friend: in those years he became one of the most acclaimed and respected young guitarists in the heavy metal scene. He also began his own solo career, his first solo album was Attack of the Neon Shark (1989), which received a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Rock Album. As a solo artist he released many albums, among them a trilogy dedicated to the classical immortal Bach, Mozart, Beethoven. His music evolved and expanded throughout the years from hard rock and heavy metal to fusion, from progressive to neoclassical, thus covering many genres. Among his side projects we can recall the bands Condition Red (2 studio albums in 2000 and 2003) and MCM (Masi, Coven, Macaluso, 1 studio album in 2004, 1 live album in 2007). Alex Masi still continues his work as guitarist and producer and he's perfoming on stage around the world both with his Alex Masi Trio and by helding guitar clinics in the main cities.
