The band "Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe" (also known as ABWH), was formed in the late 80s by Jon Anderson, who want re-found the Yes of the classical period (1971-1974). It required a new name because at that time the Yes, after their disbanded in the early 80s, had been reformed by Chris Squire and Alan White, to which joined Trevor Rabin and Tony Kaye. This formation had been a great success with the album "90125" (1983),
but had brought a drastic change of style in the pop-rock direction.
Anderson wished to return to the symphonic progressive rock, so called Steve Howe (in Yes between 1969 and 1980),
Bill Bruford (in Yes between 1969 and 1972) and Rick Wakeman (in Yes between 1971 and 1973 and from 1977 to 1978). On the bass, Tony Levin replaced Chris Squire, who had involved with Yes.
The ABWH recorded a self-titled album in 1989 and from the following tour, entitled "An Evening of Yes Music Plus",
was derived a double live CD, "An Evening of Yes Music Plus", published in 1993.
Subsequently, Yes and ABWH founded a solution to their conflicts and created together, with the name Yes,
an album significantly titled "Union" (1991), composed in part of tracks by ABWH, and in part of tracks
by the group that had kept the name Yes (Rabin, Squire, White and Kaye). |
