Benjamin Montmorency "Benmont" Tench, III is a musician best known as a founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
In addition to playing piano and Hammond organ with the Heartbreakers, Tench is also known as a session musician, he has recorded with, U2, Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Don Henley, John Prine, Ringo Starr, John Fogerty, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, The Ramones, The Rolling Stones, The Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, The Cult, Sean Watkins,
Fiona Apple, Lone Justice and many others.
In January 2008, Tench joined a band officially known as W.P.A.(Works Progress Administration).
His bandmates are Glen Phillips (guitar, vocals), Sean Watkins (guitar), Pete Thomas (drums), Sara Watkins (fiddle), Greg Leisz
(various), Luke Bulla (fiddle), and Davey Faragher (bass).
W.P.A. released their first work, a self-titled album, in September 2009.
