Profile:

Brian Eno began with the lowly tape recorder as a medium for honing his craft and developed his leanings towards experimentation from an early age. Although he was influenced by the rock `n` roll of his childhood, Eno`s first real musical contributions came in the form of performance rock - through the Simultaneous Cabinet and Maxwell Demon outfits - and as a clarinet player in the
Portsmouth Sinfonia. Eno later dallied with glam rock as part of the band Roxy Music, alongside Bryan Ferry. Although the collaboration didn`t last long, Eno still produced great works with the group.

It was not long after quitting Roxy Music that Eno teamed up with Robert Fripp for two projects. During this time, Eno fully embraced the use of studio technology as a way of producing and altering music and even created a tape-delay machine that
enabled him and Fripp to engineer the unique sound of their collaborative works. Such experimentation was a forerunner of what`s termed sampling in certain musical fields today.

Solo projects followed, along with the next big Eno innovation - ambient music. Eno experimented with the way in which music could interact with atmosphere and eventually embarked on a mammoth project he released on his own label.
This ten-album odyssey saw Eno set the stage for a whole new genre of music to follow in later years, influencing even the music in some films that did very well at the box office.

Later Eno collaborations included works with David Bowie, Talking Heads and David Byrne, helping to inspire important albums for these artists.
