Dead Can Dance are an Anglo-Australian duo formed by Lisa Gerrard (contralto) and Brendan Perry (baritone). The Dead Can Dance's hallmark is certainly the voices of the two artists (the unmistakable voice's tone of Lisa Gerrard earned her a Oscar nomination for the soundtrack's theme of the movie 'Gladiator') and their care about arrangments. The band formed in Melbourne in 1981, then disbanded in 1998 and reformed in 2005 for a world tour. After a brief start in Australia, the Duo moved to London, where, a year later signed a contract with the independent record label 4AD, a well-known label of the British alternative scene. During the eighties their albums start to collect a considerable number of fans. The first albums by Dead Can Dance have darkwave sounds, then they have been mixed with experiments and ethnic influences of the European medieval repertoire and sounds of Persian and Australian Aboriginal traditions. On July 25, 2011 through their Facebook page announcing a new album and a world tour planned for 2012.
