The last Deep Purple's work, the nineteenth, is an honest album, and certainly very well played, 45 are years of career, and these sprightly oldsters since long need not to prove anything to anyone. It's a pleasure to listen to them, their last album really worth mentioning was 'Perfect Strangers' (1986), then, some high and low, until you get to this 'Now What?!', which has a cover really terrible, sound instead is quite pleasant and interesting. Arrangements are rather progressive and sometimes quite catchy (Bob Ezrin, already with Pink Floyd and Lou Reed, among others, is the producer and co-author of all tracks), the whole is supported by the mastery of the enormous experience and skill of the musicians (apart from Steve Morse, the others are in his seventies). The creative flickers are few and probably only a song is worthy to stay among their best songs of all time, 'Hell to pay'.

The Now What?! line up is the same as 'Rapture of the Deep' and 'Bananas' (Roger Glover, Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Steve Morse and Don Airey), the album indeed is quite different; No What?! takes with both hands in the desire of these veterans to mix different things (something that many times, with different line up throughout the years, they had already done), especially a good hard rock sound with prog influences. There's something new, and in part also surprising, at least than their last recordings, the sound, infact, besides being powerful, it's pretty fresh and original. No What?! remininds a lot the desire to experiment in the way present mainly in two works of their endless discography, namely their third studio album (1969) and Burn (1974).
