In my opinion Depeche Mode are one of the greatest bands in the world. I've always been more into hard rock and heavy metal but Depeche are something different and... higher. The thing I mostly love of them, is the fact they create albums in which every song can potentially be a hit single. And this is not what is intended as "commercial", it's just enormous skillness in songwriting, without loosing the typical Depeche mark. Exciter is the best example of what I'm saying. Each song is extremely beautiful, charming, delicate, professional, accurate, don't really find the words to describe them, and obviously I can't choose the best, they are virtually all hit singles (and most of them have been). Maybe Breathe, Goodnight Lovers, Dream On, The Dead of Night, I can't really say: maybe it's just... Passion!!! I think this is one of those (few) albums in music history that even if you don't like the band, even if you hate them... you are hit by every song at the very first listening... and you should admit it! Last thing: after all this, if you think that during the last Tour of the Universe, they didn't play any of the songs from Exciter (and their concert I attended in Italy in October 2009 was fantastic)... you can tell how big they are!!!
