The Dream Theater, at the beginning of their career, known under the name "Majesty", were founded in 1985 by John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and John Myung. They have become one of the progressive rock / metal's band of most successful, thanks also to the technical level of its components and to external projects to which they have participated. Dream Theater are considered by many, as the true inventors of the progressive metal genre, in fact, only after the release of "Images and Words" (1992), the definition of progressive metal (fusion between progressive rock and heavy metal) began to be used, and others groups will adopt this formula giving rise to a new musical reality.
