Elton Dean is best known as a member of the Soft Machine from 1969 to 1972. After Dean had left the Soft Machine, he founded a new band called "Just Us". From 1975 to 1978 Dean was a member of the "Ninesense". In early 2000s Dean with other Soft Machine's former members, toured and recorded at first under the name "Soft Works" and then as "Soft Machine Legacy".
