Elvis Aron Presley was a singer, guitarist and actor.
He was one of the most popular singers of the 20th century, a cultural icon, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King".
At the age of 13, he along with his family moved from Tupelo to Memphis, and there, in 1954, began his career.
His first single, "Heartbreak Hotel", published in January 1956, was a number one hit.
Presley became the most important figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television
appearances and chart-topping records.
His energized interpretations of songs, and his uninhibited
performance style made him enormously popular, and controversial.
His characteristic movements of the pelvis gave him another famous nickname, "The Pelvis".
Presley had an unprecedented impact on American and worldwide culture.
He was also estimated by many personalities of star system
of his time, from Marilyn Monroe to the Beatles.
His debut film was "Love me tender", in November 1956.
After military service (1958), Presley, guided by Parker, devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies
and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided.
In 1968, he returned to live performance, after seven years away from the stage.
Except five concerts in Canada, he never performed outside the United States.
During his career, Presley published 61 albums selling over one billion records worldwide.
He was nominated for 14 competitive Grammys, he won three, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement
Award at age 36.
He was one of the most successful commercial artists in music history, probably the best-selling solo artist in the
history of popular music.
