Profile:
Vangelis (born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou) is a musician and composer famous for his Academy Award winning score for the film "Chariots of Fire", and scores for the films "Blade Runner" and "1492: Conquest of Paradise". Other his notable soundtracks are "Antarctica" (1983), and "The Bounty" (1984). Vangelis started his career by founding in the early sixties a pop group called "Forminx" which became popular in Greece. In 1969 he moved to Paris and founded the progressive rock band "Aphrodite's Child", with Demis Roussos and Loukas Sideras. Vangelis started his solo career in 1973 and his first album was "Earth" (1973). He has collaborated with several artists, amongst others, with Irene Papas and Jon Anderson (founding member and lead singer of Yes), with which, between 1979 and 1991, formed the duo "Jon & Vangelis". Vangelis composed the official Anthem for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
