Frederick Dewayne "Freddie" Hubbard was a musician, composer and bandleader.
Freddie Hubbard was a virtuoso and technically versatile musician.
He began his professional career with guitarist Wes Montgomery, and later he worked with Sonny Rollins and J. J. Johnson.
In 1960, Freddie Hubbard recorded with John Coltrane, collaborated with Ornette Coleman for the album "Free Jazz", played on "Blues and the Abstract Truth" by Oliver Nelson, and recorded for Blue Note, as a leader of a quintet, with James Spaulding on alto sax.
In 1961, Hubbard joined the Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers , where he remained until 1964.
He worked with Coltrane on "Ascension," with Eric Dolphy on "Out To Lunch" and with Herbie Hancock on "Maiden Voyage".
In 1970, Hubbard recorded two albums, "Red Clay" and "Straight Life", which gave him, fame and success all over the world.
With the next album, First Light (1971), he won a Grammy Award. In 1977 he was called on tour by Herbie Hancock.
After 1993, for the consequences of infection of a wound to his upper lip, his brilliance on the trumpet was resized
and so he merely to play the flugelhorn.
Freddie Hubbard died at the age of 70 years, following the
complications of a heart attack.
