Gilli Smyth co founded Gong with Daevid Allen. She worked also in Mother Gong and Planet Gong and in addition she published several albums as a soloist and had many collaborations with other Gong memkbers. In Gong, she often performed with the name "Shakti Yoni". She is known for her compelling poetic images and "unique’ space whisper, a deep exploration of atonal sounds which have manifested in many albums over the years.
