The GPS were founded in 2006 by John Payne, Guthrie Govan and Jay Schellen.
They already worked together in Asia, but when Geoff Downes re-founded the Asia's earlier line-up,
Payne, Govan and Schellen announced the formation of a new band, then called GPS, from the initials
of the three founding members.
In 2006, The band released its first album titled "Window to the Soul".
In parallel with GPS, Payne, Govan and Schellen with Erik Norlander on keyboards founded "Asia
Featuring John Payne". Subsequently, the guitarist Guthrie Govan has left the "Asia Featuring John Payne" in mid-2009, when he was replaced by Mitch Perry.
