The more progressive metal in their early recordings, and one of my favourite. I like all songs, mainly Powerslave and the Rime of an Ancient Mariner. Very, very good.

This is maybe the one I love the most; the atmosphere is unique throughout the whole work, they tried many times to repeat this sound but I think they never fully managed. That was maybe a magic moment. also less famous songs like Flash Of The Blade (someone remebers it in a Dario Argento movie?) or The Duellists are gems and the two guitars of Smith and Murray are simply the essence of what a heavy metal "axe duo" had to be! it's not a case that the Wolrd Slavery Tour that followed and produced Live After Death is still remembered as the biggest one (and maybe first) in heavy metal history. Anyway the highlights are with no doubt the explosion of Aces High, Powerslave and The Rime Of the Ancient Mariner, a Coleridge poem that has become immortal also thanx to Maiden... surprisingly I never liked very much the most famous 2 Minutes To Midnight, but anyway it's a 5 star cum laude!!!
