The band's name was chosen by leader Perry Farrell's and refers to his ex-housemate in Los Angeles, Jane Bainter, who was a heroin addict (also their song "Jane Says" is dedicated to her).

Jane's Addiction is an American alternative rock/metal band, one of the main protagonists of the Los Angeles scene in the middle 80s and first 90s. The band knew several break-up and line up changes, their last reunion dates 2008 and lasts until present.
