Jay Lane was a founding member of Primus, along with Les Claypool and Todd Huth, when the band still performed under the name of "Primate". Lane left the band in 1989 to pursue other musical projects. He was also a member of the jazz band "Charlie Hunter Trio" and he has played in "Ratdog", ex-Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir's solo project.
