Along with Under Wraps, this album is their best work in the 80s, really good. Its sound remembers the Tull's best works ever, it's more progressive and hard, and less electronic than their previous albums.

Their best work in the 80s. Budapest is really a great song (4,5/5), one of the best in their long career. All the other songs are solid and very interesting.

Album Card
Crest Of A Knave: was recorded in the first months of 1987, 'just round the corner from the kitchen in the room behind the door which used to be painted white but isn't anymore'. Some drum tracks have been recorded at Black Bean Studio; Some tracks have a drum machine and not a live drummer (A1, A5 and A9). Ian Anderson provided to keyboard and synthesizer parts (Peter John Vettese was now absent). Drummers Doane Perry and Gerry Conway appear as guests, Ric Sanders plays violin on track A6 (Budapest).
