Since early 1970s, with his own band, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, he has performed a technically virtuosic and complex style of music that fused jazz and rock with Indian and eastern influences. His style has influenced many other guitarists. In the late 60s, John McLaughlin played, at first with Tony Williams's group "Lifetime", and then with Miles Davis, on "In a Silent Way" end "Bitches Brew" sessions. John McLaughlin has worked and collaborated also with many other musicians, including, the saxophonist Bill Evans, Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola and Carlos Santana, among others.
