The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion formed in 1990 in New York City, after the disbanded of the Jon Spencer's previous group, the Pussy Galore.
Bauer and Simins before joining the JSBX had played in various bands (among them The Honeymoon Killers and Boss Hog).
In 2004, with the album Damage, the band shortened the name to the more immediate Blues Explosion.
Their sound is raw and explosive and combine elements of noise rock, rock and roll, blues, soul, funk, rap and rockabilly and is generally defined as a punk blues.
