In 2009 Metallica and Lou Reed performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 25th Anniversary Concert. They met and they began thinking about making a record together. In February 2011 Metallica announced their commitment on a secret project. In June 2011 this secret project was revealed; Lou Reed and Metallica had recorded an album together, Lulu.
