Mark Ledford is best known for his multi-instrumentalism, and as a member in the Pat Metheny Group between 1987 and 1998. Ledford also worked and collaborated with musicians such as,
Bill Evans, Don Byron, Michael Brecker, Kevin Eubanks, Prince, Special EFX and others.
He also collaborated with Bobby McFerrin's a cappella group, Circle.
In 1998, he released a solo CD, entitled "Miles 2 Go", a tribute to Miles Davis.
In 2004, Ledford died of a heart attack.
