Nirvana were formed by the lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and by the bassist Krist Novoselic. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. Nirvana were one the most influential bands of the early 90s and one of the first and most important bands that gave commercial success to the genre grunge.
