When Peter Gabriel in 1975 abandoned Genesis to begin a solo career, Phil Collins became the lead singer of the band (from the album "A Trick of the Tail" 1976), retaining also the role of drummer in the studio recordings. The first album with Phil Collins as lead singer reached the Top 40 in the United States and the position No. 3 in the United Kingdom charts.
