Robert Fripp is first and foremost an exceptional guitarist. He is particularly well known for his expertise at crosspicking, a technique usually used by masters of the banjo, as well as composing with eccentric time signatures. This is common in the prog-rock field that he came to dominate with King Crimson, a band that he is perhaps mainly associated with.

In fact, it`s difficult to discuss Fripp without mentioning the prog opus that is `In the Court of the Crimson King`, recorded in 1969.
This, together with later releases, came to define King Crimson`s lasting influence on the rock world. Though the band had various incarnations, Fripp was the one constant.

Fripp later became involved in various other musical outfits and even reformed King Crimson in the 1990s. He worked as a guitarist on David Bowie LPs, taught guitar to students and released solo projects such as the album `That Which Passes` in 1997.

Robert Fripp is also well known for the term Frippertronics, which combined Fripp`s guitars with tape loops. The humming noise created came to be a hallmark on the Robert Fripp and Brian Eno's collaborative projects, which included 1974`s `Evening Star` and came to represent the avant-garde leanings of both musicians, reflected across their collaborations.
