William "Smokey" Robinson, Jr. is a musician and a record producer. Robinson, both as solo artist and member of Motown Records' first vocal group, The Miracles, delivered, between 1960 and 1987, thirty-seven Top 40 hits for Motown. He soon became one of the primary figures in the Label, second only to the Berry Gordy, the company's founder. Robinson also was the company's vice president between 1961 and 1988.
