Down On The Upside is an album very different from the rest of Soundgarden's discography, it's full of experimentations and sometimes dark atmosphere. There are no more metal sounds, which had characterized many of their works, the music is closer to punk rock with a lots of psychedelia. Down On The Upside is a mature work, full of disillusion, overall it's very pleasant to listen. These are also Soundgarden! The best song is undoubtedly 'Pretty Noose'.

'Down on the Upside' is an album probably too pretentious (and too long), some songs are very good, especially 'Pretty Noose' and 'Burden in My Hand', but others are quite boring. Thier best works remain 'Badmotorfinger' (1991) and 'Superunknown' (1994).
