Stephen Joshua Sondheim is considered by many one of the most important composer and lyricist for stage and film of the XXI century.
His most famous works include (as composer and lyricist) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday
in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins, as well as the lyrics for West Side Story
and Gypsy.
He was president of the Dramatists Guild between 1973 and 1981.
He has won an Academy Award, multiple Grammy Awards, multiple Tony Awards, including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre,
and a Pulitzer Prize.
