Thomas Alan "Tom" Waits is a musician, composer and actor, worldwide known and appreciated for his distinctive voice. As a composer, Waits has worked for movies and musical plays and, as a supporting actor, he has worked in several films, including Bram Stoker's Dracula and Jim Jarmusch' Down By Law (with John Lurie and Roberto Benigni). As a musician, his songs are probably best known as cover versions by other artists, such as "Downtown Train", performed by Rod Stewart and "Jersey Girl", performed by Bruce Springsteen. Various are the collaborations and the contributions with and for other artists, such as, among others, Bonnie Raitt, Eagles, Roy Orbison, Primus, Gavin Bryars, The Replacements, Chuck E. Weiss, Tin Hat Trio, Dan Hicks, Sparklehorse, Dave Douglas, Muse, Solomon Burke, Los Lobos and Eels. The first Waits solo album is titled "Closing Time", and it was published in 1973.
