Tony Williams (born Anthony Tillmon Williams) gained a great fame, when he joined the second
Miles Davis Quintet, where he became a very important member.
In 1964, Williams released his first album as a leader, "Life Time", and some years after, at the end of the sixties, he formed his own band, just called like
his first solo album, "Tony Williams Lifetime". The first Tony Williams Lifetime's album, entitled "Emergency!"
was published in 1969.
Williams has collaborated with many musicians and groups, among them, Andrew Hill, Arcana,
Branford Marsalis, Eric Dolphy, Herbie Hancock, Jackie McLean, McCoy Tyner, Michel Petrucciani,
Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, Stanley Clarke, Wayne Shorter, Weather Report,
Wynton Marsalis, Jaco Pastorius and John McLaughlin.
Williams was one of the most important drummers in the jazz scene of the late twentieth century.
He died at 51 years of a heart attack.
