The Transatlantic were founded in 2000 by Mike Portnoy
(member and drummer of Dream Theater), and Neal Morse, former keyboardist/lead singer of Spock's Beard.
They later added Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings and Pete Trewavas of Marillion,
Group of which Portnoy has always been a big fan.
In 2000, in New York, they recorded their first album titled "SMPT: e".
The album has five tracks, the first, "All of the Above",
is a suite of thirty minutes and the last, "In Held (twas) in I" is a cover of Procol Harum.
After the publishing of "SMPT: e", The Transatlantic did a series of gigs in the United States, this tour led to a double live CD and a video
both entitled "Live in America."
In 2001, they published the second studio album, "Bridge Across Forever." The album contains four tracks, of which,
three are long suites. In 2003, The Transatlantic recorded a double CD and a double DVD titled "Live in Europe".
In October 2009 was released the last studio album, it consists of a single 77 minute title-track "The Whirlwind".
