A great return with David Lee Roth on vocals, and Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son, on bass. Several songs are really good, at their best.

I have to confess that I was suspicious about the new album from Van Halen, which sees the return of David Lee Roth with the band after 28 years, In fact the last work with the vocalist was 1984 (1984).
Many people has complained that some songs were simply rearranged by recycling old material and unfinished demos, the first single, 'Tattoo', for example, comes from a demo written in 1976 (and it's one of the worst songs of the album, too pop). Eddie Van Halen, however, has repeatedly said that he has a 'closet' full of unpublished compositions that would be enough to fill half a dozen albums. Van Halen have recorded 12 very good tracks (I don't like 'Tattoo'), the 'new' material is very consistent, high quality, and what counts is whether the whole album is good or not, and to be clear, 'A Different Kind Of Truth' is a great album. The new songs do not sound like covers of old songs, in fact, the freshness of the sound is clear. The bass, played by Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son, is been debated among fans, but I have to say that it sounds very well.
A Different Kind of Truth is a topical comeback for one of the largest and most important bands in rock history. Nobody expected it would be so good, and that's why the band has surprised everyone with a sharp, powerfull and current sound.
Recommended.

It really seems entirely made in the 70s. Good!

A Different Kind Of Truth: Recorded between November 2010 and October 2011 at 5150 Studios and Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. It is the first Van Halen studio album with David Lee Roth on vocals since "1984". It is also the first studio album for Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son. Many of the songs contained in the album are based on demos and unrecorded lyrics by Van Halen in the 1970's.
