When in December 1988 the Spitak earthquake devastated Armenia and killed nearly 25.000 people, there was such a big shock all over the world, that for the first time after the long Cold War, the Soviet Union formally asked the United States and its allies for economic and humanitarian help. Also the music world gave its contribution and one of the most popular initiatives was a re-mixed version of the Deep Purple song "Smoke on the Water", performed by lead singer Ian Gillan with the help of many other famous rock stars; this was made to raise funds for helping Armenian population. In 2011, after 23 years from that tragic event, Ian Gillan and his friend Tony Iommi from Balck Sabbath (both travelled and fell in love with the country and people of Armenia in the past, and were also officially thanked and greeted for their efforts) have decided to form an all star band called Whocares, who will release a single CD with 2 brand new songs on 24 May 2011. The purpose is always to raise funds for Armenia and in this case the sales income will be entirely devolved to a project of a new music school in that country.
Whocares band is composed of Ian Gillan (vocals, Deep Purple), Tony Iommi (guitar, Black Sabbath), Jason Newsted (bass, ex Metallica), Jon Lord (keyboads, ex Deep Purple), Nicko McBrain (drums, Iron Maiden), Mikko Lindström (guitar, H.I.M.). The two new songs are "Out Of My Mind" and "Holy Water". Good luck from MusicAdvisor!!!
